Golden Strand, Achill Island can be found approximately 3kms east of Dugort Village on Achill Island. It is also known as Barnyagappul Strand, meaning gap of the horses. Golden Strand, Achill Island is an exposed shore with a sandy substrate. The upper shore consists of large pebbles with gently sloping sand dunes along the headlands. It is a popular beach for swimming, walking, surfing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing. The beach also holds a variety of native plants and wildlife.
