About this activity

Located just 10 minutes from Sligo Town, the village of Drumcliffe is home to the site where St Colmcille founded a monastery in 574. There, visitors can view the remains of a 10th-century high cross and a fragment of a plain high cross. There are also some remnants of a round tower or bell tower, but most of the structure was demolished to build a bridge in the 18th or 19th century. Drumcliffe is also the burial place of revered Irish poet, W.B. Yeats.
